The nation of Zimbabwe is a landlocked country of 16 million people in southern Africa, bordered by South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia, Botswana and the eastern tip of Namibia. Politically, it is a Republic, currently headed by the Honorable President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa. Though the official trade language is English, the two other predominant languages in the country are ChiShona and Ndebele.
Some believe that up to 80% of the population attends some form of a church service each week, in Zimbabwe. Possibly as many as 25% of the people may rest in the saving work of Jesus Christ for their personal forgiveness. We guess that about 40% of the country's population participates in some form of the Apostolic Church, known locally as the VaAposotori. This movement is not related to the Apostolic Church in the West. There is very little evangelical witness among these groups. We are seeing the Lord use Zimbabwe AWANA as one entry opportunity, where their Leader Based Curriculum is being adopted by some of the VaAposotori leaders. Pray for AWANA in Zimbabwe. At this time there is little opposition to the Church and its work in this country. Christians enjoy the freedom to worship as they please.
Karanda Mission Hospital is located 125 miles (185 km) northeast of Harare, the capital city. It is situated on a spur of the Ruya river, 25 miles northeast of the town of Mt. Darwin. Work at Karanda was started by The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM) missionaries and members of the Evangelical Church in 1961. Today the hospital is staffed by around 200 employees. TEAM still supplies some personnel who work at the hospital. Karanda's independent Board of Directors and the hospital administration team provide day-to-day management.
Karanda does benefit from the prayer, interest and gifts of friends from other parts of the world. Kathy and I are happy to support the Lord's work that goes on among the people that seek treatment at the hospital. There is a page dedicated to projects that have captured our attention. Thanks for looking at these opportunities and for continuing to pray for the work going on at the hospital.
